Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA)

AFSA is a non-profit 501(c)(19) veteran’s organization made up of seven divisions across the United States, and overseas, with over 95,000 members.  Our mission is to advocate improved quality of life and economic fairness that will support the well-being of the Total Air Force (Air Force Active Duty, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve Command) enlisted personnel, past and present, and their families.

AFSA Division 6 is the Golden West Division, representing 21 individual chapters members in California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona with a total of 21 individual chapters.

Program Overview

Our division is implementing a new grant, Adopt-an-Airman, to sponsor members, selected through an application process, to attend our annual division convention.  While this event has immense professional yields for attendees, the fees and travel associated with attendance can be prohibitive of encouraging maximum participation from some of our junior members who may not have the financial means to participate.  A donation of $1,200 would allow one airman to attend our annual convention.  Our goal is to provide 63 junior members with this opportunity and a contribution from your professional corporation will greatly assist us in this new initiative.  This would allow 3 attendees from each of the 21 chapters in our division to attend to the convention.

Operating Budget

The AFSA Division 6 budget is primarily dependent on internal fundraising efforts through the sales of military (challenge coins, shirts, etc.) as well and quarterly membership rebates administrative support from AFSA Headquarters.  Monies raised from these events currently fund the annual division conventions (programs, guest speakers,as well as awards, and office materials, and other logistical fees).  Recently, due to fiscal constraints, division financial support from AFSA Headquarters has been cut from $4,000 per quarter to $1,000 per quarter, leading our division to initiate a community outreach program to establish partnerships with like-minded businesses to ensure our enlisted veterans receive the same, if not improved, support from division AFSA initiatives.  By expanding our budget to incorporate grants and donations from supporting commercial partners, we will be able to increase our membership benefits to include convention attendance and other also to establish new developmental programs aimed at increasing the quality of life of Active Duty Air Force members,  and veterans, and  as well as their families.

The budget below does not incorporate the proposed Adopt-an-Airmen anticipated expenses, as this program was visualized after the adoption of the annual budget.  Should this program become a success, it and other programs will be accounted for in future budget iterations.

Grant Request

Your corporation is known to be committed to giving back to the communities that its customers and employees live in.  Our division lies within your community purview and supports Air Force members and veterans residing in this locale.  While AFSA is not a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, it is a qualified 501(c)(19) non-profit veteran’s organization.  This status does provide for income tax deductions for individuals/companies that make contributions to our organization.  Our applicable IRS documentation is attached to this request.

This request is among our first partnership endeavors of AFSA Division 6’s newly formed Grant Writing Committee Community Outreach Program.  Our overall program funding goal is outlined in detail below, with the anticipated cost to sponsor one deserving airman at approximately $1,200.  Any contribution received, will propel us closer to our goal of supporting 63 airmen to attend our annual convention, as well as lay the ground-work for establishing other developmental programs to provide tools and opportunities that will benefit our veteran constituency.

AFSA Division 6’s Adopt-an-Airman-Program

This year, 2017, marked the Fourth Annual AFSA Division 6 Convention that took place in Las Vegas, NV.  While AFSA Division 6 leadership would love for all members to be able to attend these conventions, there are often financial barriers that keep military members from participating. To encourage and expand future attendance, AFSA Division 6 is instituting the Adopt-an-Airman Program that aims to sponsor airmen by providing funding for registration and travel costs for junior members (E-1 thru E-4) that require financial assistance. (2017 Military Pay Chart Site, 2017 Military Pay Chart PDF)

It is our goal to be able to sponsor at least three to four deserving airmen from each state chapter within our division to attend this annual convention through an application process that will be overseen by division leadership.  Attendance at the three-day convention will expose these interested Air Force members to outstanding performers and mentors across the division as well as interactions with senior military leaders and activists, allow them to participate in workshops and seminars regarding military legislative matters affecting the western region, and will ultimately result in gaining experience and knowledge relating to veteran initiatives that attendees will be able to impart to the veteran community within their respective states.

As is customary among Air Force veterans, AFSA aims high, and with your help we intend to afford nothing but the best for our members.  We are requesting a the monetary donation to sponsor 63 individuals within the western region.  The 2018 AFSA Division 6 Convention details for which your contribution will be used for is as follows:

DATES: March 25–27, 2018

LOCATION: Las Vegas, NV 89031

VENUE: Orleans Hotel & Casino Convention, Banquet, and Business Center

We have set the below budget within standard commercial rates for airfare, lodging, and meals for members in attendance of our division convention.  Since this is among our first community outreach initiatives, we have yet to receive any other outside contributions.  As our program progresses toward its goal of providing 63 airmen with the means to attend this professional convention, we can provide updates regarding fellow sponsorship and outcomes as they develop.
